Health equity group questions Richmond Community Hospital

The Richmond Coalition for Health Equity is calling on the owners of Richmond (Va.) Community Hospital to spend profits from the federal 340B drug pricing program on health equity programs in the city's East End,NBC12reported Nov. 21.

The group says that the hospital, which is owned by Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours, has rolled back services over the years, including closing down its intensive care unit. Some of the demands of the group include an urgent care clinic at the East End hospital location and quicker work done to complete a 25,000-square-foot office building.

"Over the past two months, Bon Secours has met with more than 50 community members, city officials, and legislative representatives to address our ongoing commitment to the East End community and to engage these stakeholders in the work we are actively doing to address the health needs of this community," the health system said in a statement.
