UnitedHealth to be investigated by Mississippi state auditor for overbilling Medicaid

The Mississippi State Auditor's Office is investigating OptumRX, UnitedHealth Group's pharmacy benefits manager, for allegedly overbilling the state's Medicaid program for prescription drugs, theClarion Ledgerreported June 21.

Both UnitedHealth and the auditor's office declined to comment to the publication regarding the probe.

The investigation comes one week after Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced a $55 million settlement with Centene, a payer also accused of overbilling Medicaid for prescriptions.

Mississippi has been in contract with UnitedHealth since 2017. The company has made $250 million from the state's Medicaid services since then, the article said.
