19 healthcare organizations outsourcing RCM functions

Becker'shas reported on 19 health systems that have opted to outsource finance jobs or other revenue cycle functions since Jan. 1:

1. Annapolis, Md.-basedLuminis HealthtappedVisiQuate Dec. 15 to manage its revenue cycle management operations. Through the five-year partnership, Luminis will deploy VisiQuate's denials management, revenue management and reverse analytics tools.

2.Dayton (Ohio) Children's Hospital on Dec. 1tappedartificial intelligence-powered analytics company VisiQuate to provide the hospital with billing analytics. The hospital aims for the four-year partnership to decrease claims denials, accelerate revenue and enable more equitable contractual agreements.

3.Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals West Monroe(La.) on Nov. 29choseCareCloud to handle its revenue cycle management services. Cornerstone aims for the partnership to maximize revenue capture and reduce labor costs and billing errors.

4. Winchester, Va.-basedValley Health SystemselectedEnsemble Health Partners Nov. 2 to optimize its revenue cycle operations. Valley Health said it is working to rebound from financial losses due to lower procedural volumes, supply chain issues and staffing challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

5. Chicago-basedSinai Medical Groupon Oct. 20selectedConifer Health Solutions for a five-year revenue cycle management partnership. The partnership involves full engagement, with a focus on clinical documentation improvement and coding.

6. West Burlington, Iowa-basedGreat River Healthon Oct. 4saidit is outsourcing medical coding to Omega Healthcare, effective Nov. 1. Omega has offered the 35 affected employees permanent, full-time positions at similar compensation and benefits packages.

7. Bloomington, Minn.-basedEmergency Physicians Professional AssociationtappedR1 RCM Aug. 31 to be its exclusive revenue cycle services provider. The independently owned physician group serves more than 600,000 patients annually across 11 hospitals and medical centers as well as three urgency room locations.

8. Pittsburgh-basedSt. Clair Health8月。25selectedR1 RCM to serve as its primary end-to-end revenue cycle management provider for the next 10 years. About 150 St. Clair Health revenue cycle employees will be offered comparable positions, pay and benefits with R1 RCM.

9. Sacramento, Calif.-basedSutter HealthchoseR1 RCM July 14 to be its exclusive end-to-end revenue cycle service partner for the next 10 years. As part of the agreement, about 1,150 Sutter revenue cycle employees will be offered comparable positions, pay and benefits with R1 RCM.

10. Columbus-basedOhioHealthon July 7announcedthat 70 revenue cycle employees would be laid off Nov. 4 as it outsources those functions to AGS Health. The health system is also eliminating 567 information technology jobs.

11.Claxton-Hepburn Medical Centerin Ogdensburg, N.Y.,saidJune 27 it is cutting about 5 percent of its 800-person workforce as it plans to outsource revenue cycle functions. The union representing the 41 workerssaidJuly 14 it is challenging the cuts. The union said the hospital failed to train the workers properly.

12. Frisco, Texas-based Conifer Health Solutions on May 24reacheda multiyear, multifacility agreement forBrookwood Baptist Health, central Alabama's largest healthcare network. The agreement expands the company's relationship with Brookwood Baptist Hospital and provides services for four more hospitals within the system.

13. Nashville, Tenn.-basedArdent Health Services, a network of 30 hospitals in six states,expandedits revenue cycle management partnership with Ensemble Health Partners May 11. Ensemble has provided RCM services to Ardent locations in Idaho, New Jersey and Texas since 2017. The partnership will be expanded to include all Ardent markets.

14.The University of Tennessee Health Science Center's College of Dentistry Pathologyin MemphisselectedCareCloud May 9 to handle revenue cycle management and EHR services. CareCloud will manage all aspects of billing and collection of professional fees for procedures performed by the university's department of oral and maxillofacial diagnostic services.

18.Day Kimball Healthcarein Putnam, Conn.,tappedEnsemble Health Partners as its revenue cycle management partner Jan. 21. The health system will work with Ensemble on patient scheduling, registration, billing and collections.

19. Greenbrae, Calif.-basedMarinHealthselectedOptum Jan. 20 to provide supply chain and revenue cycle management services. As a result of the partnership, certain MarinHealth employees performing these in-house functions will become employees of Optum.
